The Destiny House Homeless Shelter at 208 Emerson Street was approved for occupancy by the City of Warrensburg on January 9, 2014. The City’s Building Inspection Division and Fire Department approved the building after a walk-through inspection.
“This is a much-needed facility that meets a great need in our community. We appreciate the efforts of Mr. Shields and his many volunteers as they worked with our staff in recent weeks to ensure the safety of the future occupants of this building,” said Brett Penrose, Building Official.
Temperatures over the next few days are expected to warm up, but the evenings may dip into the low 30s. With the shelter approved for occupants, it provides a safe haven from the winter weather.
“Clearly Destiny House is filling a void that has been absent from our community. We are grateful, as I am sure the beneficiaries of this project are, for the persistence of Mr. Shields, his volunteers and the donors in making this a reality,” said Mayor Charlie Rutt.
