The new year is off to a great start in Warrensburg. The former BOMAG building, 618 N. Enterprise Dr., will be home to a major manufacturer of textile components in the automobile industry.
Janesville Acoustics will return the 155,000 sq. ft. building to active production of goods, with an estimated 40,000 sq. ft. building addition planned by the end of the year. As a new primary employer, Janesville Acoustics will invest $8.5 million in equipment and machinery in the local economy. Total investment in the community will be $13.4 million.
“Janesville Acoustics’ decision to invest in Warrensburg is continuing evidence that our community has what it takes to compete in a global economy,” said Mayor Charlie Rutt. “Over 124 new full-time jobs is big news for our economy, and we look forward to working with Janesville Acoustics.”
Construction activity will begin shortly with production of goods set to begin in July 2014. It is anticipated a minimum of 124 new full-time, benefits earning jobs will be created in the first year and another 40 jobs in the second year. The base wage of $33,000 is 21% greater than Johnson County’s average wage of $27,272. The higher-than-average paycheck is a boost to the community and fulfills a job shortage in the region. Additionally, Janesville Acoustics is paying 65% of the employee’s cost for a health benefits plan.
On January 13, the company applied for local incentive assistance. Local incentives are coupled alongside incentives provided at the state level and by local utility provider KCP&L, including:
Local: Chapter 100 Bonds to abate a portion of the personal property taxes on machinery and equipment; Cost Share Agreement for a public parking lot, crosswalk and pedestrian signal; Waiver of all building permit and public works fees.
State: Missouri Works; Division of Workforce Development; international trade assistance; the Show-Me Heroes program.
KCP&L: Economic Development Rider with a reduced rate for electricity over five years.
The City will now begin its due diligence phase and will bring additional information to City Council for discussion and action at a future Council meeting.
