Several agencies have joined forces to create a safer Johnson County.  In an effort to keep residents and visitors safe from fire injuries and lost property, create public awareness of fire hazards, and effective education of all citizens, the Johnson County Fire Investigation Unit has been created.  These agencies include the Johnson County Fire Protection District, Johnson County Fire Protection District #2, Johnson County Prosecuting Attorney, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Knob Noster Fire Department, Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri Division of Fire Safety, Missouri State Highway Patrol, University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg Police Department, and the Warrensburg Fire Department.

“This is a great opportunity for all of the agencies to come together for the betterment of the entire community of Johnson County.  No single agency has all of the tools they might need on a particular incident.  By working together in a spirit of cooperation, the citizens of Johnson County will be well served” states Jeremy VanWey, President of the Johnson County Fire Investigation Unit.

The purpose of this unit will be to unite for the mutual benefit of all agencies involved in the investigation of fires and related crimes, provide the timely exchange of technical information in the field of fire investigations, encourage cooperation and maximization of resources between all agencies, promote high standards of professional conduct among fire investigators, provide training opportunities for law enforcement and fire service personnel, and to create public awareness of the seriousness of arson and related crimes.
