The Holden and Pine Streets Commercial Historic District was approved by the National Park Service for listing on the National Register of Historic Places on April 3, 2017. The District includes 88 total resources, and is listed for its contribution to local commerce and economic development from 1870 to 1967, the current 50 year cut-off date for eligibility to the National Register.
The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. Buildings, Structures, Sites, Objects, and Districts that are significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering, or culture can be listed. Properties can be significant nationally, on a state level, or locally. A property must typically be at least 50 years old, and retain enough material and form to communicate its history to be eligible for listing on the National Register.
A ribbon cutting for the District is scheduled for May 5 at 5:00 pm in Downtown Warrensburg. Following the ribbon cutting, a family friendly Architectural Scavenger Hunt is scheduled during the First Friday Art Walk. Other Preservation Month activities include publication of the annual Notable Structures and Preservation Opportunities booklet, as well as a special booklet about the Holden and Pine Streets Commercial Historic District featuring historic photos of downtown Warrensburg.
This project is partially funded by a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, State Historic Preservation Office and the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service.
